Learner Handout 1 / Activity 1:  Designing a student centered learning activity

Instructions:  Design a student centered learning activity that is fairly narrow in scope. It can be an activity that maps to any study unit / chapter covered, in any course you teach.  It needs to incorporate 2 to 3 of the learning objectives from the study unit.  If you are designing a totally custom lesson, and writing your own objectives, be sure to review the performance verbs handout in Course Documents, and write your objectives in a clear, concise way. Remember, they must be measurable. 

Use this handout as a sample, and Download this template to use as as starting point.  Be sure to include the teacher instructions, the student handout and an assessment rubric.  

Criteria for success:

1. Review the workshop presentation again before beginning this activity. 

2.  Minimally, you plan must contain an instructor / teacher section, goals and objectives, student instructions, and a rubric. 

3.  Your plan needs to involve students in a learning activity to goes beyond the scope of rote memorization, and challenges critical thinking.

4.  Ensure that language is accurate – free of spelling and grammar errors. 

5.  Review the grading rubric before beginning this activity.  

6.  Put your name on the rubric and hand it in with your assignments for this activity electronically, by sending it via the Digital Drop Box.
