Unit 5 - Making your Mark with Photoshop Tools

I cannot draw free hand. Obviously, I am not an artist! This image simply demonstrates the use of Photoshop drawing tools that you could use if you ARE an artist. I used the paint brush tool for my dolly's face, body, hair, eyes, nose and mouth.

I used a separate layer for each and various sized brushes.

I defined a custom brush that was basically a loopy strand of curls. I used it on my picture of the stick dolly to apply curls to her hair very quickly.

This is for demonstration purposes only. I think I had best stick to working with photographs and the many tools that enable even an non artist to create some very professional looking graphics.

Hairy is falling in love...

I had some fun with this image. I took 2 photographs from my zoo collection and used layers and masking to create this one image. I call this "Mary and Hairy".

The first step was to take all the background out of Mary's picture using the masking tool. Then I was able to add her image to the gorilla picture. Last, I used the sponge tool to add saturation.

Here I used the shape tool to add a few hearts around Hairy the ape. Looks like Hairy is falling in love! I also used the warp tool in liquify to put a big goofy smile on Hairy's face. I used the dodge tool to lighten his face.

Doesn't Hairy look like he is just dumb struck with a bad case of puppy love? Or would that be "Monkey Love"?

original image with one butterfly

When I took this picture, there was more landscape then monkey. You had to really look close to see him at all.

I cropped the original image in Photoshop to focus on the monkey. Then, I used the sponge tool to saturate him. I also adjusted the contrast to brighten the photograph.

Do you see the butterfly in the upper right corner? He is a clone of the butterfly in the lower bottom of the image. I used the rubber stamp tool to create him and the extra flower beside him. The top image was the original.
